Coffee contains caffeine, a natural stimulant. Caffeine is absorbed into your bloodstream when you consume coffee, eventually crossing the blood-brain barrier. By inhibiting adenosine, caffeine increases the activity of other neurotransmitters leading to increased alertness and focus.
